A readable view of a .btm file
A BizTalk map (.btm) is an XML file. The BizTalk Mapper in Visual Studio draws it as two schema trees with lines and functoids between them. Without that tool, the raw XML is hard to read: links are long XPath expressions and functoids refer to each other by number.
The BizTalk Map Viewer is a custom editor for .btm files. It turns the XML into a list you can read:
- Source and target schemas: the root node and the schema reference of each side.
- Pages: pick a map page from a drop-down, as on the Mapper's page tabs.
- Links: one row per link, with short paths such as
Order / OrderIdinstead of the full XPath. - Functoids: shown where a link starts or ends at one, with their functoid ID, constant inputs and script code.
- Filter: narrow the links on a page by path, constant or script text.
Where it runs
- In VS Code 1.85 or later. No BizTalk Server, Visual Studio or BizTalk SDK is needed.
- Locally. The map is parsed inside the VS Code window. The viewer makes no network requests.
- Read-only. The viewer never changes the file. If you edit the
.btmin a text editor, the view updates.
