BizTalk Orchestration Viewer

Quick start

Open an .odx file and explore its shapes.

Open your first orchestration

  1. 1
    Open a folder

with a BizTalk project, or any folder with .odx files.

  2. 2
Click an .odx file in the Explorer.

It opens in the BizTalk Orchestration Viewer, the default editor for *.odx.

  3. 3
Read the counts and the shape list

in the sidebar on the left.

  4. 4
    Click a shape

in the list or on the diagram. The inspector on the right shows its migration note, references and attributes.

Open other files

Run BizTalk: Open Orchestration Viewer from the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P). It opens the viewer with a built-in sample orchestration. Select Open Artifact to pick a file (.xml, .odx, .btm, .xsd, .binding, .config or .txt) in VS Code's file dialog, or drag a file from the Explorer or your file manager onto the viewer, holding Shift as you drop (VS Code asks for it before it hands a drop to a viewer). Sample loads the sample again.

An .odx file still opens as text?

Right-click it, choose Open With… and select BizTalk Orchestration Viewer. If it keeps opening as text, check workbench.editorAssociations in your settings: an entry such as "*.odx": "default" overrides the extension. Remove it or set it to biztalkOrchestrationViewer.odxEditor.
