A pipeline at a glance

A BizTalk pipeline (.btp) is an XML file that the Pipeline Designer in Visual Studio shows as stages with components. The BizTalk Pipeline Viewer is a read-only custom editor for .btp files. It shows:

• The direction: receive or send, with the pipeline version and policy file.
• The stages in order, named Decode, Disassemble, Validate, Resolve Party, Pre-assemble, Assemble and Encode.
• The components in each stage, with their .NET type, description, version and whether they are managed.
• The configured properties of each component, including the ones that are not set.

Where it runs

• In VS Code 1.90 or later. No BizTalk Server or Visual Studio is needed.
• Locally. The file is parsed inside the VS Code window. The viewer makes no network requests.
• Read-only. The viewer never changes the file. If you edit the .btp in a text editor, the view updates.
